Young Adults

The future of Catholic ministries will depend on developing a new generation of leaders who can live out a faith that does justice.

MAGiS is a long-term project designed to open young adults aged 18 to 30 to the experience of Ignatian Spirituality, helping them become more aware of themselves, their world, and their relationship with God as they move into adulthood.

In cities across Australia, MAGiS participants meet fortnightly to reflect and pray together using Ignatian spirituality, and often to share a meal. They are also exposed to a range of social justice initiatives, particularly those linked with Jesuit ministries. MAGiS focuses on strengthening bonds of friendship and understanding through its annual Summer Programme, which includes Experiments both locally and abroad.

MAGiS was first established in the lead-up to World Youth Day in Sydney, and has continued since then to provide ongoing support and opportunities for young people. The ministry is sponsored by the Australian Jesuits along with the Loreto Sisters (IBVM), the Faithful Companions of Jesus (FCJ), the Religious of the Sacred Heart (RSCJ), and the Sisters of Charity (RSC). It also has links with the Christian Life Community (CLC).

Ultimately, MAGiS aims to produce people with a sense of God’s place in their lives and the capacity to build a better world. The nourishment provided by MAGiS has sustained many members as they discover their identity in their work, at home, and in relationship with others.
