Education

‘The globalization of superficiality challenges Jesuit higher education to promote in creative new ways the depth of thought and imagination that are distinguishing marks of the Ignatian tradition’, Fr Adolfo Nicolás SJ.

The Education Ministry includes Jesuit involvement in tertiary education, academic research, public policy, university colleges and university chaplaincies. There are also Jesuit owned and operated schools and affiliated Ignatian schools.

Jesuit education seeks to affirm a world seen as 'charged with the grandeur of God'. 'To find God in all things' was the aim of St Ignatius Loyola and his Jesuit companions, who first formed a community at the University of Paris early in the 16th century. Jesuit education has always been world-affirming, encouraging a study of all reality and seeking to produce wisdom. Jesuits have long stressed the humanities, because in discovering the truly human we also discover the divine. But the Jesuit spirit equally involves a bold engagement in the world, an exploring of new ideas, new technologies and new aspirations.

Jesuit Schools Commission

The Jesuit Schools Commission assists the Provincial and his Education Delegate in guiding the schools ministry of  the Province, including the management of relationships   with partner schools. The Commission’s role is to support schools in their desire to reflect the Ignatian spiritual and educational vision.
