What is the Australian Jesuit Foundation?

The Australian Jesuit Foundation is the national fundraising office for the Australian Jesuits. Established by the Jesuit Provincial, its role is to foster strong relationships among individuals and families who have an association with the Australian Jesuits with the hope that those friendships will help promote and sustain creative and effective ministries into the future. The Australian Jesuit Foundation has a key role in the support of the ministries of the Australian Province of the Society of Jesus.

It is the major body that seeks funding for the Jesuit ministries within Australia, focusing particularly on those works that lack adequate support or funding. The Australian Jesuit Foundation has been given the particular task of encouraging bequests towards the Jesuit Order and for encouraging major gifts to support its work here in Australia. Jesuit Mission, on the other hand, focuses on the works of the Jesuits overseas. The Australian Jesuits believe that there are key people who have had a close association with the Jesuit Order throughout their lives who have the capacity to assist and sustain the future of the Order and its diverse ministries. The Australian Jesuit Foundation seeks to establish a link with these key people to encourage their ongoing involvement as companions in that Province wide mission. Such an involvement will not prevent nor deter such individuals continuing their support of particular ministries, such as a school, a parish or a social ministry.

The larger Australian Jesuit ministries have long been successful in raising substantial funds from generous benefactors with whom they have built a strong affinity. There are however a number of Jesuit works in Australia, also critical to the achievement of the Province Mission, that do not enjoy the same level of public awareness or support.

The Australian Jesuit Foundation will help to strengthen the Province’s efforts in establishing the common mission of the Australian Jesuits. All existing ministries have a key role in helping to sustain that mission, and in particular in supporting those ministries lacking sufficient support at this time.

A Bequest to the Australian Jesuits?

Writing a will often helps to clarify our priorities in life. It is an opportunity to express our gratitude and love for what we hold dear. Writing a will allows us to consciously name and remember that which is important to us. Our will is a lasting testimony to the life we have lived and to our values.

You may like to make a bequest in your will to the Australian Jesuit Foundation in favour of the continued work of the Australian Jesuits.

A Bequest can be made in several ways. Through the gifting of:

  1. The residue of your estate. This is the balance of your Estate after you have made provision for your family and other specific provisions.
  2. A percentage of your estate. In this way, you nominate a percentage of your estate and not a specific amount.
  3. Specific bequests other than money. Gifts of property and shares are welcomed and gratefully received.

Your bequest, your gift to the Australian Jesuit Foundation will enable Jesuit ministries in Australia to continue to support those in need and to build a more just and unified Australia.
